How this actually started
A dorm move-out favor that turned into a company
I was a Tulane sophomore the first time I moved someone's entire dorm room in a truck that technically belonged to my roommate's uncle. Word spread across the hall faster than I expected, and by the next move-out weekend I had six jobs booked instead of one favor to do.
That was 2017. I kept doing it through the rest of school, then decided against the job search everyone else was doing senior year and licensed the whole operation properly instead. Nobody hiring movers cares that I used to be one of their classmates — they care whether the truck shows up on time and the number stays what I quoted.
The team is bigger now than a guy and a borrowed pickup. Desiree Landry runs the office and usually calls you back the same day. Marcus Guidry plans every route around whatever campus traffic is actually doing that week. Jamal Broussard handles the long-distance runs and anything that needs real rigging. Katie Sonnier leads our dorm and apartment crews during the two weeks a year when half the city is moving at once.
I still sign off on the schedule myself most weeks, and during peak move-in and move-out I am usually on a truck somewhere in the mix. Not because Desiree, Marcus, Jamal, or Katie need supervision — they run circles around me at this point — but because staying close to the actual work is the only way I know to catch a problem before a customer does.
