Big shout out to Katie and her crew for a big move today. It was a lot of work and I appreciate them getting me moved in quickly.
We know which Freret and Broadmoor complexes need a certificate of insurance before the elevator opens up.
Desiree can often quote it from your description alone.
Dorm move-in and move-out weekends are their own category of chaos in this city. Between Tulane, Loyola, UNO, Xavier, and Dillard, thousands of students are hauling futons and mini-fridges through the same handful of loading zones in the same ten-day window every August and May, and Fast Affordable College Student Movers was built around exactly that crunch.
We move dorm rooms, on-campus suites, and off-campus apartment turnovers — loading, transport, and unloading, plus reassembly of lofted beds and desks that colleges love to bolt together in configurations nobody can undo alone. Because dorm loads are small, we price them as small loads, not a full-household rate. If you’re also clearing out a whole apartment lease at semester’s end, ask about pairing this with our summer storage service so you’re not paying to move things twice.
This is our specialty: students moving in or out of dorms, and renters turning over off-campus housing in Freret, Uptown, Mid-City, Broadmoor, and Carrollton, where shotgun houses and doubles get split three or four ways among roommates. It’s a different job than a residential move — smaller loads, tighter buildings, and a hard deadline set by the university, not by you.
Because dorm and apartment loads are typically a fraction of a full truck, we offer small-load, budget-flat pricing instead of charging a full-size crew rate for a twin XL mattress and three boxes. Roommates splitting a lease can also split a truck and split the bill — tell Desiree the full group’s item count and she’ll quote it together rather than as separate jobs.
Katie Sonnier has led our dorm and apartment crews for four years and knows the loading-dock quirks at every major dorm building near Tulane and Loyola — which entrances allow trucks, which require a hand-cart relay from the street, and which elevators reliably jam during peak move-in hours. Marcus Guidry builds the day’s routing around campus move-in traffic so your window doesn’t get eaten by a street closure.
August move-in and May move-out during finals week are, without question, our busiest stretches of the year — book three or more weeks ahead if your date falls inside either window. Outside those two windows, slots open up fast. Off-campus lease turnovers tend to cluster around the first of the month too, so a mid-month booking often gets you better availability. Start with a quote or check our service area list if your new place is off-campus.
You won't see these listed as extras on the invoice — they're just part of how a New Orleans job gets done.

The moving crew was simply outstanding. Efficient and effective, true pros.
Happy with how it went. I was impressed how fast they got everything down three flights and across the courtyard from the truck.
Same New Orleans crew handles all of these across Greater New Orleans, not a separate subcontractor per service.
Katie's crew has hauled enough futons up Freret Street stairwells to size a truck from the address alone.
Jamal runs the same truck all the way home to Houston or Atlanta — nobody hands your boxes to a stranger halfway.
A shotgun house off Magazine and a Metairie split-level get the same careful crew, different equipment.
Nobody has time to box a whole kitchen during finals — give Desiree a date and it's done before the truck even backs in.
An upright and a baby grand don't move the same way, so Jamal wants to know which one you own before he'll put a number on the stairs.
Gun safes and floor safes don't come loose with a dolly and good intentions — Jamal's crew brings the straps and the plan first.
Two addresses is enough for our New Orleans office to send back a written flat rate, usually the same business day.
